November 30-December 4

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. It is hard to believe that the Christmas season is already here and we are almost halfway through the school year!
This week we will be reading the story “On Top of Spaghetti”, which is a book written about the song, so expect to hear a lot of singing this week. Our spelling words will be:
Come
For
Me
Here
Are

Our special person this week will be Adriana, we can’t wait to hear from you!

This month will be filled with lots of Christmas activities with our big activity being the Polar Express on the 16th. I sent home permission slips last week, so please get those sent back in. If you need a new one please let me know.

We need to get a Christmas box off to our soldier so please send in any donations (candy, non-perishable food items and toiletry items) so we can send it off by the 11th. He would sure appreciate anything you can share.

Thanks again for all you do!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I hope you all have a wonderful week with your families and friends.

This week we are looking forward to our feast. All of our reading and activities will be centered around Thanksgiving. Monday we will be making butter and home made bread and our posse stew. We will also be talking about Thanksgiving colors, and we will learn how to write, Indian style!

On Tuesday we will put together our fruit salad and then head to the feast.

This is always one of my favorite times of year. The kids seem to really love it, and I hope those of you who join us do to.

I will take lots of pictures to post on our blog for all to see.
Thanks again for all your donations that helped make this possible.

Thanksgiving Feast

Thanksgiving Feast

Dear Parents,
We would like to prepare our own Thanksgiving dinner at school on Tuesday, November 24.
I have found that it is easier to ask for donations and do all the shopping myself so we get the proper items and amount, and so I don’t have to make a trip to Safeway at the last minute to pick up a necessary item. If you would like to donate to our feast, please have your child bring $2.00 by Friday, November 20th. If you are unable to donate that is fine, all children will participate in the festivities.

The menu for our feast is: Posse Stew, homemade bread, homemade butter, fruit salad, pumpkin pie pudding and milk. We will be eating at lunchtime so your child will not need a lunch that day but they may bring one if they do not like the menu.
The children will be making costumes to wear that day. Talk with your child, to see if they would like to be a Pilgrim or an Indian.

Also, I could use some parent volunteers for Monday and Tuesday mornings and Tuesday afternoon. If you would like to help prepare the dinner and/or clean up, please sign below.
Thank-you!

November 9-13

This week we will be reading a book called “Listen to the Desert”. It gives us a good chance to talk about our state and the deserts that are here.

Our spelling words will be:
look went
it
no
said
It might seem that we keep repeating spelling words, but that is okay. The more they see these words the better in the long run.
Our Special Person this week will be Aura. We are excited to hear from her.
We are getting ready to send our soldier a Thanksgiving package. He would love treats!

Don’t forget that there is no school this Wednesday because of Veterans Day. Monday and Tuesday we will be learning about what a Veteran is and why we should be respectful to these great men and women. Also, don’t forget to go to the Veteran’s Day Parade on Main Street Wednesday. We will be making something special just for the parade.

Oh these kids...They were so cute! What a fun Halloween party we had. Special Thanks go to Alena's mom, Stratton's mom and Reese's mom for their planning and fun party. The kids were all happy and seemed to have a GREAT time. A thank-you to all of you who sent treats! You are all wonderful, supportive parents and I appreciate all you do.

This week we are reading a book about the city. Our spelling words will be:
in
the
city
it
so
Pretty easy, so I'm hoping everyone gets 100%! Our rhyme this week will be:
"Sing, sing, what shall I sing?
The cat's run away with the pudding string.

Do, do What shall I do?
The cat's run away with the pudding, too!"
Learning nursery rhymes really helps in the reading process so please read and recite them often.
We will also be learning all about Thanksgiving and doing lots of projects related to the Pilgrims and our great country.
Hope you all had a fun Halloween.
