Dear Parents,
Because of the new budget cuts we are short funds for supplies like paper. Last year I would run off reading books for my students to read for homework but unfortunately this year I will not be able to do that. At this point most of the students need help in reviewing their letter names, and the sounds that they make, for example, show them an m and ask them what sound it makes. If your child already knows these well, challenge them to read a book, about 1/3 of our class is able to do that. Give them time (5-10 seconds) to sound out the words they don’t know, and then help them if they can’t get it.

Reading to your child for 20-30 minutes a night is the best thing you can do for your child’s academics so please spend time reading fun stories. We read 3-4 during our school day and the kids love it.

Also, at this time the students need help writing their names. Please have them practice each night.

Starting this week we will give spelling tests. Our spelling words this week will be:
The
It
You
Of
He
Please help your student’s practice writing and memorizing these spelling words. We will take a pre-test on Thursday and our official test next Monday, usually our tests will take place on Fridays but I will be out of town this Friday and we will have a substitute.

Lastly, we will be hosting a Parent’s Night this Tuesday at 6:30 PM. Babysitting will be provided. We will be sharing information as to how our class works, what is expected for homework, how you can help, and what we can all do to help our school. I look forward to seeing you!

Thanks for all you do, you have fantastic children and I love them.

Mrs. Hamblin
