Sept 21-25

Dear Parents,
Don't forget that Parent Teacher Conferences are this week. I sent home schedules last week, so if you didn't see one, please be sure and call me so I can tell you your time, or we can work a time out that is good for you. I look forward to seeing each of you and visiting about your children.
This week we will be reading "My Five Senses", a book all about smell, taste, hearing, seeing, and touch. Spelling Test scores weren't as good as I had hoped so we are going to keep our same words this week. If your child missed 2 words or less on Friday's test then they won't have to take the test again this Friday. The words are:
one
two
three
four
five
Please help your child study these words and continue reading each night, it really does help.
Early release days this week are Wednesday and Friday.
Thank you to all of you who have contributed to our Care Package for our soldier. I have a feeling he is going to be VERY spoiled. I know he really appreciates it!
See you this week!

Sept 14-18

Dear Parents,
We had a great week last week learning about our Flag and its importance. We also got to know a little bit about our soldier that we have adopted. He is serving in Iraq right now and has about 4 months until he gets to come home. He is a really nice guy and would love anything we send him including toiletries and candy or non-perishable food items. (He told me that when they get packages they all share with each other). I have a basket set up in our room for any donations you would like to make. I will be sending him a package about once a month so feel free to contribute any time! We will also be writing to him once a week and I think anyone is welcome to write him a note.
This week we will be reading a story called "One Red Rooster". It is a counting book and I think your kids will really like it. I will be sending these books home again with them on Wednesday, so please make sure they get sent back on Thursday. Our spelling words consequently will be:
one
two
three
four
five
Next week spelling words will be six-ten. Homework again will be reading and studying spelling words.
We look forward to hearing from Ganon this week as our Special Person. Thanks to Chansler for sharing last week. We learned a lot about him and his family.
Next week will be our Parent Teacher Conferences so look for a note coming home letting you know when yours has been scheduled. If you can't make your scheduled time just let me know and I will be happy to change it.
Thanks again for all your help. I love it when you just drop by to help. It really makes a huge difference!

Our Soldier

We were able to adopt a Soldier through an organization called Soldier's Angels for our class. We made Thank You cards for him today and these are pictures of us making those cards. These cards are so great! I wish you could see them...our soldier is going to LOVE them!
We are going to be sending our soldier several care packages this year, so if anyone would like to contribute any items I will have a basket in our room to put items in. I have written him and asked for ideas on what he needs/likes, etc so I will let you know further.
Thanks again for all you do. Your kids are AMAZING and I love them very much

9/11

Dear Parents,
Tomorrow we will be commemorating September 11th. We have been learning about the flag all week and talking about appropriate ways to stand during the pledge of allegiance.

We will be talking about what happened on that day and why it is important for all of us to be good Americans.

Adam's dad will be coming in tomorrow to talk to the kids about his thoughts on the flag and patriotism. Adam's dad served in Iraq and we are thankful to him for his willingness to come in and share with us.

Just thought you would like to know.
Study those Spelling words! and, like, can, is, the

Sept 8-11

Dear Parents,
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. It was nice and long, hope everyone is well rested and ready to get back to work.
We are starting a new curriculum this week, it is a First Grade curriculum but we will go at our own pace and make sure we “get it” before we move on. Our story this week will be Annie, Bea, and Chi Chi Dolores. This is a fun book about school and the alphabet. Our students will be taking these books home on Wednesday for homework, but these books need to come back to school with them on Thursday.
Our spelling words this week may look familiar, but I feel like we need to keep working on them:
Can
Is
And
The
Like
Please help your student study these each night and continue reading with them nightly.
We look forward to hearing from Chansler this week as our Special Person. It has been so fun hearing from each of these kids and learning all about them.
Thanks for all you do!
